Set in a small town in North Carolina, Luce gets her sister's children after she is murdered. I had heard a lot of good things about Cold Mountain and Thirteen Moons, so I was excited when I won this from a Goodreads giveaway. But it has taken me quite awhile to read this, which is unusual for me since I am a fast reader. The story really did sound good and I definitely thought it was going to be a book I would like. But I just couldn't get into it, I couldn't connect with any of the characters and it was hard to tell where the dialog was. I don't think the book is badly written, the descriptions are very nice, but I really just couldn't get into this book. It just wasn't for me.
