Mattie's Story - Margaret A. Westlie

This book is set on Price Edward Island in the 19th and is based on the real story of the author's Grandparents.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. What really drew me to the book was the fact it was set on Prince Edward Island. I grew up watching the Anne of Green Gables miniseries and a few years ago I began to read the book series. I thought it would be nice to read another book set on Prince.

The author has a nice writing style that makes it really easy to get into the story and made me want to keep reading.

And while I know this is based on the story of her grandparents and also set in a different time, I just couldn't get into the whole a woman needs to do what she needs to, even if it is not what she wants.

Mattie, the main character, is forced into a marriage early on in the book. David, who ends up being her husband, is nice and treats her well. But, it was hard for me to really like him knowing that he had decided long ago she would be his wife. There was no asking, no dating. Nothing. Just he decided and Mattie's mother accepted.

There was also just so much women couldn't do otherwise it would ruin her reputation and no one would want her. Like I said, I know this is set in a different time, but it just doesn't sit well with me that the female characters had to deal with whatever they were given in life, even if they didn't want it.

I really enjoyed the writing in the book though and would be interested to read another book by this author.
