Halloween Night - R.L. Stine

Brenda doesn't like her cousin Halley. In fact, she hates her. And she definitely isn't the only one. Halley keeps causing chaos, stealing boyfriends until she takes it just too far.

Before I write what I think, I want to warn everyone that there will be spoilers.

Halloween Night has some of what I've come to expect from R.L. Stine. It has the usual twists and the spookiness that made me want to keep reading to find out what happened next.

The book is from the perspective of Brenda, who is 16. I wouldn't say that she was completely unlikable. I felt for her and what she was going through. Brenda's character was very dramatic and I think because of that it may be hard for some people to really like her.

I didn't think Brenda was a bad character, but maybe a little immature. But Halley was worse. And I have to think that may Brenda isn't usually like that.

I know that if I were a teenager and my parents let my cousin move in, gave her my room and she started being hateful with me and they didn't even care, I wouldn't be happy at all. It may even lead to outbursts like Brenda's. Her parents wouldn't take Brenda's side no matter what.

Now I understand Halley was going through a hard time with her parents divorcing, but that doesn't give her any right to act the way she did. And Brenda's parents were always there for Halley, always taking her side. Even with all the scary things happening to their daughter. Real blood on the wall, a dead bird in her Jack-O-Lantern and rotten meat on her bed. All they were ever concerned with was Halley and how she felt. In their eyes, Brenda was the bad guy. She was the one causing trouble, not Halley. Besides Halley, I think the parents were one things that made me so mad. They definitely won't be winning any parents of the year awards.

Also, Halley's excuses for acting the way she did aren't good reasons (not that there are any good reasons to do the things she did). It's honestly a little hard for me to fully believe she is sorry.

Overall, I did like the book, even if some of the characters made me extremely mad. I'm eventually going to read the second book.
