Bambi - Felix Salten

This is my first time reading this book. The Bambi I grew up with was the Disney version.

The book isn't bad at all; it is very well-written and has beautiful illustrations. However, I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. It seems to me that it is very much about growing up and seeing the world is not all sunshine and rainbows.

The reader sees life through Bambi's eyes. When he is young, the world is seen through his innocent eyes. When Bambi is older, and wiser, he sees that life isn't all beautiful as he once thought.

Life is seen through animal eyes and how they view humans - dangerous and without mercy. Some of it for me was hard to read, especially the death scenes. I love animals, have been around them all my life. Animals aren't pets to me; they are family. And I know I could never hunt animals. I could never bring myself to end their life.

Bambi, the book, is a serious work. If you've only ever watched the movie and plan on reading this, it's very different from the movie.
